ABOUT ME

Zainab Jamal Registered Psychotherapist

My passion for supporting growth led me to become a high school guidance counsellor and eventually a Registered Psychotherapist. Over the past 15 years, I have discovered that humans are not problems to be solved, or machines to be fixed. To be fully human is to have a range of feelings and experiences. All these feelings belong and are valid. I work with my clients to make space to accept and get curious about their experience. This can only happen within a warm, non-judgemental, and compassionate relationship, making space for healing and growth.  I work with individuals 18 and over and couples, who are residents of Ontario.

My approach is informed by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, (ACT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Emotion FocusedTherapy (Individual, Couples, and Families), and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). How I use these approaches depends on my clients’ goals and needs. There are times when specific tools or practices may be called for; at other times, simply holding space is what’s needed. I work with my clients to find the most effective way to support growth. And while the issues we deal with in therapy may be serious, my style is informal and warm.
